Surface of the Longyearbyen Glacier

Surface of the Longyearbyen Glacier - Longyearbyen
Spitsbergen has the large majority of the World's cold glaciers. These glaciers unlike temperate glaciers have little meltwater to act as lubricant and therefore tend to move forward in a series of jerks. In the short Spitsbergen summer, meltwater streams can be seen flowing along the surface of the ice.
